Test blood sugar at home

With the Quicktest blood glucose meter you can quickly and easily measure your blood sugar. You can easily do the test at home and after only 5 seconds you can read your blood sugar value on the blood sugar meter. A blood glucose meter is an important tool for keeping track of your blood sugar levels so that they are stable. If you are able to maintain a consistent blood sugar level in your everyday life, you are well on your way to a satisfactory HbA1c value (long-term sugar). If you have diabetes, it is especially important to measure your blood sugar levels. However, it can also be a good idea to check your blood sugar levels if you have other metabolic diseases that affect your blood sugar or if you suffer from severe blood sugar fluctuations. If blood sugar is above 8 mmol/l for a long time, the elevated blood sugar levels can cause long-term complications.Primarily, this concerns an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes, but also kidney failure, cancer, dementia and several other age-related diseases. Regular blood sugar measurements make it easier to detect how blood sugar varies throughout the day. Good habits and diet can help you achieve more stable blood sugar levels.

How do you measure blood sugar?

Measuring blood sugar with the Quicktest blood sugar meter is very simple:
  1. Wash and dry your hands.
  2. Insert the test strip into the meter.
  3. Use the lancet to obtain a drop of blood from your fingertip.
  4. Transfer the drop of blood to the test strip placed in the blood glucose meter.
  5. Wait until the blood is absorbed and the window is completely covered.
  6. The blood glucose meter then starts analyzing the blood sample automatically and you can read the result after only 5 seconds.
Quicktest X6 also stores your results so you can easily follow your values over time. Click on the "Instructional video" button and you can watch a video of how easy it is to use Quicktest X6. The test strips are delivered in a smart jar that can be easily opened and closed, so they are always protected from moisture etc.

Note that Quicktest X6 can also measure cholesterol, uric acid (urate), ketosis and lactate/lactic acid. However, these parameters require separate test strips that you can purchase here: Fact-checked 2024-04-12 by Leg Doctor Fredrik Lönnqvist Leg Nurse

The doctor’s view

Measuring your own blood glucose is common today. Some people need to do it because of a diagnosis, but otherwise healthy people can also benefit from monitoring blood glucose, especially if diabetes runs in the family. If levels are abnormal, it is important to seek medical care for further investigation and possible treatment.

Frequently asked questions

What is the included code chip used for?
Because you can test several different markers with the Quicktest X6 meter, the code chip is used to 'tell' the measuring device that it should measure blood glucose specifically. The code chip only needs to be inserted once if you only intend to measure blood glucose. If you also want to measure any of the other markers, such as cholesterol or uric acid, that test's unique code chip must first be used so that the X6 knows you are testing a different parameter. The code chip can be reused.
What is a normal blood glucose level?
Normal blood glucose values depend on when you measure:
  • Before a meal: 4-7 mmol/L
  • After a meal (approx. 1½ h): less than 10 mmol/L
  • At bedtime: approx. 6-8 mmol/L
How often should I measure my blood glucose?
Blood glucose fluctuates throughout the day, which makes it difficult to determine your overall glucose level from a single measurement. For the most reliable picture, you should therefore measure your blood glucose four times a day - before each main meal and shortly before bedtime. If you feel that is too much, measure once a day - either fasting in the morning or at bedtime.
Symptoms of high blood glucose?
  • Fatigue
  • Heart palpitations
  • Nausea
  • Dry mouth
  • Frequent urination
  • Thirst
Symptoms of low blood glucose?
  • Sweating
  • Trembling / shaking
  • Visual disturbances
  • Hunger
  • Headache
  • Low mood
  • Pale skin
  • Dizziness / feeling faint
How do I troubleshoot the device when it is not working?
Here we list the most common error codes that may occur with Multitest X6:
  • E-b : Battery power is too low - Replace the batteries immediately
  • E-U : A used test strip has been inserted into the meter - Repeat the measurement with a new test strip
  • E-2 : The strip/code chip has expired - Make sure the date set on the meter is correct. Check the expiration date on the package. If the problem persists during your blood test, repeat with a new code chip.
  • E-t : The ambient temperature is above or below the system's operating range - Repeat the test once both the meter and test strip are within the recommended temperature range to obtain accurate results.
  • E-0/E-A/E-E/E-C : Meter problem - Repeat the test with a new test strip. If the meter still does not work, contact us for help.
  • E-F : The test strip was removed during the analysis countdown or the blood volume was insufficient - See the instructions and repeat the test with a new strip. If the problem persists, contact us for help.
  • E-8 : The code chip was not inserted far enough before testing - Check that the code chip has been inserted correctly for proper coding. Make sure the code chip you are using measures the correct blood parameter. If the problem persists, contact us for help.
